What is Imitrex?

Imitrex is a medicine used to re relieve migraines and headache symptoms. It belongs to the class of medicine called Sumatriptan. Never use Imitrex with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the past 14 days.

You must keep this medicine out of children's reach and must keep it in room temperature. If it is expired, throw it away immediately.

Imitrex should not be taken regularly. It is only used when symptoms of headache and migraine appears. Never take a dosage of Imitrex less or more than what the doctor has prescribed. Strictly follow the prescription label and take the medicine when you are experiencing the first symptoms of migraine.

In cases of overdose, you must seek emergency medical attention as soon as possible. Overdose symptoms are shaking, skin redness, breathing problems, vision problems, weakness and seizure.

What side effects can this medicine cause?

Side effects from Imitrex are not commonly experienced. However, you must consult your doctor if you feel the following side effects: flushing, feeling of warmth, drowsiness, upset stomach, and vomiting. In cases of serious

Imitrex can cause rare side effects but it can have an effect on your heart causing heart attack or stroke. Before using Imitrex, you must tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, high blood pressure, liver disease or kidney disease. If you have these conditions, the doctor usually makes adjustments or special tests.

Imitrex is also harmful for unborn babies, thus pregnant women should never take this medicine. It can also pass into breast milk causing harm on your baby. Breastfeeding mothers are not allowed to use this.
